How to use it
What is the Qibla direction from London?
About 119 degrees from true north, which is east-south-east. Face north and turn roughly 119 degrees to your right. The finder above gives the exact figure for your location.
Why does the Qibla point south-east and not straight east?
The direction is the shortest path over the curved earth, the great-circle route, which is what every UK masjid uses. From Britain it runs east-south-east towards Makkah.
Is the phone compass accurate enough for prayer?
Usually within a few degrees, which is fine. Praying within a reasonable range of the direction is accepted, and doing your best to face it is what is required. If the compass seems off, move away from metal and calibrate by moving the phone in a figure of eight.
Does it work outside London?
Yes, anywhere. Choose a city on the prayer times page or use your exact location, and the bearing and distance update.
